The first Sunset fork took effect on mainnet, disabling multiple Beacon Chain transaction functions and launching a phased process to migrate and retire the beacon chain toward BSC.
How it happened
The team announced on 3 April 2024 that the first upgrade would take effect on 15 April 2024 at 06:00 UTC. This was the first step of BC Fusion, intended to progressively migrate Beacon Chain functionality to BSC.
What it changed
Validator management, time locks, asset issuance and cross-chain atomic swap functions were disabled or restricted. Node operators were required to upgrade; BEP-2/BEP-8 asset holders needed to migrate. The ecosystem began steadily moving off the old chain.
