BNB Chain, a new name
Build. And build again.
Binance Chain and Binance Smart Chain were unified under the BNB Chain brand. BNB was positioned as 'Build and Build,' emphasizing openness, multi-chain support, and broader ecosystem development.
How it happened
On February 15, 2022, the project announced that the two existing chains would be rebranded as BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain, together adopting the BNB Chain umbrella brand. This change was a repositioning of brand and ecosystem identity; it did not constitute a new mainnet deployment nor a technical merger of the two chains at that time.
What it changed
The repositioning tied BNB to broader ecosystem construction, expanding focus to areas such as GameFi, SocialFi, the metaverse, and MetaFi. The brand narrative shifted from being primarily an asset of a trading platform to emphasizing multi-chain infrastructure and a builders' ecosystem.
